TaBle LinEn!

Table linen is my favourite at weddings.... and, well, you all know my undying love for all things shimmery and glittery!! So put the two together and I'm in heaven!!

I mean seriously look at these table cloths and tell me that you don't want them at your wedding. Instant lift me ups are what they are.... Simple and effective.... two things I always appreciate!

FirE WorKS!

While I love love love sunshiney pictures like this one:

1

Sometimes the light is just not on your side.... However these super smart photographers have come up with their own lighting involving fireworks....

2

Its really magical!

3

how pretty is this?

4

A great way to end the wedding!

I have been following this fantastic photographer called The Wedding Filmer for a while now. The brainchild of ad-filmmaker and producer Vishal Punjabi, the idea was born when he and few photographer friends shot candid footage at his own beautiful garden wedding last summer. As he edited the priceless, raw emotions they had so tastefully captured and converted it into a 2 part short film with a trailer thrown in, he was flooded with requests from friends and cousins to recreate the same magic for their weddings.

This is an image from his wedding... love what he has done with the fireworks....!!!

You can follow him on Facebook or Pinterest.

BAck DroPs!!

One of the most important parts of a wedding is the Photographs!

And for great photographs you need a great backdrop... hence the backdrop design is something that becomes a priority for every wedding stylist. Sometimes an entire wedding decor can even revolve around the backdrop.

If you are using a natural backdrop or making one yourself, you'll need some ideas ... so here are some great inspirations!

1

This one is almost natural...The few bunches of flowers that have been added to the trees, really stand out and make for a pretty picture.

2

A great DIY backdrop....

3

Lights really do make for a rather dramatic backdrop!

4

Vey hip and cool....

All are really easy to do.... but what I love most it that even though each one is very different from the other , they are all so dramatic and eye catching.... real conversation starters....!!

Friday Weddings: Svyatoslav and Alice!

One of my biggest ruses with Indian weddings is that they are too stuffy and formal.

I know in our own way we have fun and let loose, nowadays even more so, but somehow the whole ceremony and the ten functions we have are exhausting...especially for the bride and groom...

I wish we could have a more relaxed approach to such a great day... I mean after all its really a day to celebrate the couple... not harrow them!!!

Have a look at this amazing wedding I saw recently on one of my favorite websites : Style Me Pretty... they showcase some of the most fun bohemian weddings I have ever seen!!

This one took place in Moscow, Russia. My best friend stays in Russia, I still haven't had a chance to visit... but if it's this pretty... I'm definitely going next summer!!!

The couple, Svyatoslav and his pretty bride Alice, really look like they had a blast on their special day!!

And the photographer Max Koliberdin, oh my god.... he has captured everything so beautifully.... the relaxed state of mind, the sunshine, the space.... he just made it look like an even more magical day than it already was!!

The color scheme for the day was Blue Orange and Rose..... a great combination for a day wedding.... what I absolutely loved (well one of the million things!!!) was the banner design they used on almost everything.

I am a super fan of DIY things as you know... so these adorable banners just made my day!

Tell me you don't just love love love the seating?!!!

Details are what really make for a great overall decor.....

imagine it.... chilling on the grass, a friend playing his guitar, someone singing, wine flowing, beautiful sunshine streaming through trees..... ahhhhh!!! perfect!

the trees, the flowers, his flower pin and the wreath on her hair, love how everything is complimenting each other in these pictures..... and the colours.... so pretty!!

Having fun at your wedding is something I can't stop stressing on.... its very very important to look back on your day and not only remember how tired you were, how your feet ached, how you had to smile at random guests, remember the smile on your husband's face when he saw you, or the private joke you'll cracked on your friends ... remember the fun!!

On that note.... if you think this is the kind of personal romantic bohemian wedding you would like to have let me know :)

Real Weddings..... My Wedding Part Two!

So, part two of my wedding!!! how exciting!!

Basically we had two ceremonies, since my husband is a Sikh and i'm a Hindu.... we had the Sikh ceremony in the day and the Hindu one at night. I loved it since i got to wear two wedding outfits!!! yay!!

So this is my husband....on his way to the wedding venue. The Sikh wedding takes place in the Gurudwara, the Sikh temple. Doesn't he look handsome!!!

This is the "Baraat" that is the boys side. Its so much fun... they have this band playing fun music and they dance all the way to the venue.... :) i missed it damn!!

This is me getting ready for the wedding! I was a very calm relaxed bride to be honest.... This was my most favorite look... my friend had done my hair and make up and it was just stunning!!!!

The Sikh wedding ceremony is called "Anand Karaj" which translates to "Blissful Union" Its a very simple and peaceful ceremony.

The couple takes four pheras or rounds around the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, while the priest explains their duties as a married couple. These are called Lavan Pheras as the priest reads out the Lavan Hymn by Guru Ram Das. The four stanza of the hymn describes the progression of love between a husband and wife which is analogous to that between the soul (bride) and God (the husband). For more information on this ceremony you must visit http://www.sikhs.org/wedding/ they have explained it so well.

There is something about the silence in the Gurudwara along with the meditative rhythmic chanting of the priests that just touched me.... suddenly i realized it was happening... i was getting married to this incredible boy!! It really was one of those moments when you feel time is standing still and there is nothing.... its just a perfect moment!

I was officially a missus!!!

So by the time the next wedding ceremony was ready to take place I was all the more relaxed and happy! Now nothing mattered!!

The wedding styling was done entirely by me, as were the rest of the ceremonies. Mum and I choose the most beautiful venue called Kanak Vrindavan. It is basically a number of gardens put together and really makes for a very traditional and yet somehow enchanting wedding venue!

I love fabric and i love marigold flowers.... so this mandap was just the perfect combination! Also i wanted it to have a very nice draped look .... i think it worked out just perfect!

This was the entrance to the dinner area.... I love love love elephants!! And i always knew i would have them at my wedding!

I hate typical wedding lights. So i had the decorater just hang these beautiful rice lights in the big trees around the venue. He went one step further and knotted the ends to look like balls of lights, I'm so going to use this idea!!!!

I always hated buffet set ups at weddings. As a kid i remember most Maharashtrian weddings had a sit down lunch where the family of the bride and groom would serve all guests. Since we were in Rajasthan I decided to go with their very traditional sit down layout. Every single family and friend loved it!!!

Lastly as a sweet wedding detail i had a wish tree... I had a friend tie ribbons on a tree with a table below which had pens and note paper. So people would write a little note and tie it to my tree. But since the concept was kind of new here, not a lot of people knew what to do!!! So i have a few wishes... which i turned into a scrap book!

This time the husband came in this beautiful carriage!!!! There was a full on band baja baraat again :)

As for me, no coy bride this time.... i threw a little tantrum in front of my brother about how unfair it was that the groom always came in with full on dance and music and the bride had to come in like she was getting prepped for a slaughter!!!!! So he arranged a beautiful doli for me, as that was tradition, but had all my friends and sisters dance like there was no tomorrow in front of me as i danced in my doli!! The boys side was "Shocked"!!!!!

The Hindu ceremony was a full mash of the Marathi customs the Gujarati customs and the Rajasthani customs!! The Mundawali (string of pearls) is Maharashtrian, both the bride and groom wear it on their foreheads. My two sarees were worn like the Gujarati bride wears, one from her side and one from the grooms side. The Maang tikka i wore was purely Rajasthani!!

I was just pretending to be all demure.... in truth i was soooooooooooo bored!!! there was nothing for the bride to do... everything that had to be done was done by the parents and the groom... now i know why the make the bride dress all pretty... that is all she has to do!!!

I love this picture. Thats my mum's pretty hands applying turmeric to the husbands hands. Its all so pretty and glittery!!!

This was really funny! I bought him a wedding ring at least two sizes too small!! and i insisted on pushing it down his ring finger!!! It was so bad that during dinner all the catering guys actually had to get oil and soap water to get the damn ring off his finger since it was swelling up!!!!!

Post the dinner and once all the guests had left. A few of us cousins hung around with my photographer friend and we took some fun pictures!!!

Coming from the land of Bollywood.... we had to do something overly dramatic!!!

Well that's it.... here ends the wedding.... and my husband and I are off!!

Real Weddings..... My Weddings Part One!

I had planned Fridays to be a real weddings day. Where i find some of the best weddings online or of friends and put them up. And I was online for hours but nothing jumped at me for that First blog of Real weddings.

I wanted an Indian wedding, that i was sure of. But most of the Indian weddings i found online were either in the US or the UK. I wanted it more Indian, right here in India!

I also wanted a very personal wedding. Something done by hand, where every little thing was made and planned by the bride and groom.

I also wanted the wedding to have a very vintage, very royal feel to it....

So finally, I decided on my own wedding!!

It took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan (can't get more Indian than that!!). It was completely designed and planned by me! with lots of my Mum's help. And i have given a beautiful vintage feel to all the images!!!

We started off by designing and hand making the invites. My Mum's an artist, and my favorite of her works is her lotus motif. From day one i knew that that is what i wanted on my card. And of course her calligraphy with which she wrote my and the husbands name.

front

Since we had three major occasions we designed three leaflets, also hand drawn then printed, by Mum. We picked really fun bright colors as we didn't want to use any traditional red and gold for the wedding. Everything had to be super colorful and fun!!

She even wrote little notes, more like poems for each occasion. I'll post those soon!

back

We tied a little RSVP note and a personal note to each friend and family and wrapped the card with it.

Then off to Jaipur it was! I went about four days prior to the date of the wedding to finish all the last minute detailing with the wedding decorater. everything was planned by Mum and me and just put into place by them. But once the festivities started i completely backed off from the planning and just sat back and enjoyed my wedding!!!

So it started with my mehendi on the first day.

Isn't that just gorgeous!!! I love it!

This is during the Ganesh Puja. That's a ceremony we have before you start anything new.

The Haldi Ceremony. Where all the women of the house apply a paste of turmeric on the brides feet, hands and face to make her glow during her wedding!!! It was such fun. That's my cousin sister, we are just 12 days apart in age. Since we were kids our mothers would dress us up in similar clothes and we just continued that tradition!!!!

Four generations!!! Starts off with my mum's mum on the left, then me, then my dad's mum, then my mum.

Am i glowing yet??!!!!!

This was the Sangeet/Cocktail night! My favorite outfit ever!!!! And even the husband looked dashing don't you think!!!! I love how he added the green necklace to match my outfit!!

The Bridal party full of all the people who mean the world to me!!!!

The crazy dancing lasted all night!!! My brother in law in the black was the star of the night!!

The panels with lotuses in the back are painted by Mommy dearest as well as the panel on the right, she wrote the poem that my husband had once written for me.

Hope you enjoyed the first series of my wedding! coming up are two wedding ceremonies!
